Andy Johnson began his running career at the age of nine as a Kettering Strider under the mentoring of coaches Steve Price and John Contestable. He continued running both cross country and track in high school for Dayton Christian as a freshman and sophomore and then for Beavercreek as a junior and senior. As a senior, Andy was a member of the BHS cross country team which placed third in the OHSAA Division 1 state meet. In 1990, Andy won both the 1600m and 3200m at the Dayton Division I Districts and went to the state meet in the 1600m. He also won the 1600m at the 1990 OHSAA Regional championship.

Julie Hay Mercado

Julie Hay Mercado

Class of 2021

Julie Hay Mercado is a native of Three Rivers, Michigan and attended Hillsdale College where she was a four-time All-American in cross country and track. After college, Julie took a break from running competitively. When she returned to the sport in her late 30’s, she began to build a running resume that has been unequaled in the Dayton area among female distance runners in the last ten years.

Steve Perez

Steve Perez

Class of 2021

Steve Perez’s contribution to running in the Dayton area spans high school, college, and post-collegiate careers. Steve is one of those rare runners who excelled at distances ranging from the mile up to the marathon.
Steve ran track and cross country from 1982-1984 at Beavercreek high school (BHS) in Ohio. His senior year is when he found his pace and started showing signs of what was to come. He won the mile (4:20) in a tactical race at the 1984 OHSAA Dayton District Championship. He also was a part of the BSH 2 mile relay team that placed 6th at the state meet.
As a two year captain and four year letterman (1985-1988) of the Wright State University cross country team, Steve was a consistent leader for DDRHOF coach Mike Baumer both on the course and in the classroom. Steve ran varsity in every meet of his career, rarely finishing out of the top four on the team.

Rick Musick

Rick Musick

Class of 2021

Rick Musick of Fairborn, Ohio was a highly competitive distance runner whose name often led the Dayton newspaper’s high school honor roll in the mid-1970’s. Likewise, athletic scrapbooks assembled by Miami Valley teenage thinclads nearly half- a-century ago are likely to have photos of the lean, but muscular Fairborn Baker Flyer leading the race and topping the meet results.
