Andy White

Andy has excelled as both a runner and a coach. With a solid history of success at the high school and college level as a runner, he moved on to the coaching ranks and is currently a highly  successful high school track and cross country coach. Over the past 10 years, Andy has coached more high quality State Meet Qualifying individuals than any other coach in the Dayton area.       

 

High School Runner

Andy ran for Milton Union High School in Ohio. He was a three time Southwestern River Conference (SRC) 1600 meter champion (1985-1987), one time SRC 800 meter champion (1987), and one time SRC cross country champion (1985). He was a State Qualifier four times: once in cross country (1986) and three times in 1600 meters (1985-1987). He was a top ten finisher in the 1600 meters twice (6th in 1985 and 3rd in 1987). He set the SRC, District, and Regional record for 1600 meters with a time of 4:19, which also gave him the distinction of breaking Olympic Gold Medalist Bob Schul’s school record. Upon graduation from Milton Union HS, Andy held every distance school record (800, 1600, 3200, 4x800, DMR, 4x1600, and cross country).

 

College Runner

Andy ran two years of cross country and track at Kent State University (1987-1989). Then, he transferred to Eastern Kentucky University where he excelled as a harrier and on the track. He was a member of two Ohio Valley Conference Champion cross country teams at EKU (1990-1991). Andy was a member of the 4x800 meter relay team that set the school record (1991). At EKU, he ran PR’s in the 1500m (3:49), mile (4:08), and 800m (1:51).  

 

Coach  

Andy is the head cross country and track distance coach (1996-present) at Vandalia Butler high school in Ohio. To date, he has coached 11 conference championship teams in the Greater Miami Valley Conference and Greater Western Ohio North, with one overall conference champion team. He has won the GWOC Coach of the Year award (North Division) ten times!

All the distance event record holders at Vandalia HS for both girls and boys were coached by Andy. He coached six 4x800 meter relay teams to the State Meet with three teams placing. The only Vandalia boys team to ever qualify for the State CC Meet (2006) was coached by Andy. That team placed 7th overall in the State meet.

 

In cross country, Andy has coached eight individuals who have made 18 State Meet appearances with eight podium finishes. In track, he has coached eight individuals who have made 15 State Meet appearances with 12 podium finishes, including Danny Neff, who was a five time State champion (1600m and 800m) during the 2008-2009 seasons.

Andy has been the Distance Coach for Team Ohio at the prestigious  Midwest Meet of Champions two times. This meet matches the top senior track athletes from a number of midwestern states to compete while representing their respective states.  

 

Andy works as an Occupational Therapist in the Miami Valley area and is currently training for an Ironman distance triathlon.
