John was the co-founder of the Dayton River Corridor Classic in 1977. He was the person who started the Dayton Athletic Association which was the precursor organization of the Dayton Distance Running Hall of Fame. It was though his own personal will and managerial ability that the DRRC survived in the early days of the event. When John left the Dayton area he made sure the DRCC would continue and to strive on to become a nationally known Half-Marathon.
