Running Hall of Fame
Lou Cox
Year Inducted: 1986
Jim Nichols summed it up best when describing Lou Cox ... “Quite simply the father of running in the Dayton, Ohio area”.
His fitness programs at the Central YMCA and later at the Kettering Medical Center formed the foundation upon which the Dayton running boom would be built. He was a man of foresight and a great inspirational leader. Thousands of area citizens owe their present state of health and well-being to this man. Lou was so influential on the Dayton running community that the ORRRC started the Lou Cox Memorial 5K race in honor of this beloved man. The race has become one of the fastest and biggest 5K races in Ohio.
