Mike Baumer

Mike has been a consistent and significant presence in the Dayton, Ohio

running community for the past three decades. As a runner, he began when Coach Neal Charske

suggested he try running in high school. He has excelled in each of the three categories which allows

for entrance into the DDRHOF.

Runner Profile

Kettering Fairmont East High School ... cross country MVP senior year; winner of the scholarship award; made it to the regional in cross country senior year; his high school PRʼs include a 2 mile PR of 10:08, a 1 mile PR of 4:56, and a half-mile PR of 2:08

Wright State University ... made it to the NCAA division II Nationals in 1978, 1979, 1980. In ʼ78 as part of the team and in both ʼ79 and ʼ80 as an individual. Won the Raider Award in 1979 given to the team member voted to have the best work ethic and heart.

Bob Schul Racing Team ... member of the Converse sponsored team that competed in the 1981 USATF Cross Country Nationals.

Coach Profile

Kettering Fairmont East high school ... assistant coach under Neal Charske in 1982 with team that finished 3rd in the state meet (division I).

Wright State University ... head coach from 1984-1999; youngest head coach (cross country) in NCAA at age 24 in 1984; coached both the men and women teams; main person behind WSU keeping the cross country program; coached numerous outstanding runners who continued to run successfully after college.

Assistant event coordinator of the Mideast High School Cross Country Championships 1986-present

Mike lives in the Bellbrook, Ohio area with his wife Julie and their two kids.
